A Body Session may start with a brief conversation, to clarify important issues. During the treatment itself, you may be surprised to find your therapist will both mention the mental and the physical aspects. This is because Body SDS is based on the notion of the whole individual. We believe that physique and psyche are interconnected, and that traumas and emotional hardships may get trapped in our bodies.
As tensions are relieved during a Body Session, our clients often experience a need for dialogue, in which case they can use their therapist as a sparring partner.
Therefore, treatment is combined with conversational therapy, as needed.
During treatment, you will be lying alternately on your back or belly, covered with a blanket. For best results, we recommend that you just wear your panties/briefs. However, your bra or undershirt may be kept on. Both sides of your body will be treated.
You will experience extreme well-being. Your body will feel relieved, relaxed, and energized. Your breathing will be unrestricted, and your body freer to move. The hidden resources of your body will be reinforced, and usually you will experience a sense of lightness in your body.
You may experience soreness after a treatment. In the vast majority, that soreness will soon disappear. However, it can be remedied with a brief adjustment, should it persist.
If you have been repressing pain for a longer period of time, you may also find that your pain worsens right after treatment. The reason is that you have been out of touch with that part of your body, and have now become aware of it. We firmly believe that unless such repressed pain is loosened up, your longer-term risk of health issues or illness will be greater.
In cases where therapy has opened up to repressed pain, this may necessitate further treatments. There can also be emotional side effects after treatment. These can be managed e.g. in a brief phone conversation or with a quick follow-up treatment, if needed.
Number of Body Sessions / treatment courses
It is not possible to indicate a specific number of treatments, or how often you need to go. Clients often come to prevent lifestyle disease and increase their well-being, so the frequency of Body Sessions is an individual choice. Sadly, most clients only search out treatment once the damage has happened – and the longer you have waited to take action, the longer it will usually take to get it fixed. Whatever your situation, you can always ask the advice of your Body SDS therapist, and then together tailor a treatment course that will fit your needs.
Joint mobilizing treatment techniques that works
Your treatment may involve joint movements that cannot compare to standard manipulation techniques.
Soft tissue treatment is a core aspect of our Body SDS treatment, which has evolved a whole series of manual techniques for softening periarticular structures, and for balancing tension asymmetries in your skeletomuscular system. Body SDS applies a number of indirect functional techniques to further balance overloaded joint complexes. Practically speaking, the aforementioned joint-mobilizing techniques are followed, comprising joint articulation / mobilization. Joint articulation is carried out as a general rotation and/or traction across several joints within the physiological limits of the individual joints. During a Body Session, joint articulation is done at slow to medium speed, a short weight arm and varying force. Joint mobilization is done as a pumping motion generally across several joints, again always within the physiological limits of individual joints.
It is important to emphasize that Body SDS does not use manipulation or other interventions involving the paraphysiological space of joint mobility.
Moreover, it is worth mentioning that the gentle joint articulating and joint mobilizing techniques developed by Body SDS have been in use since 1950, without any reports of serious complications, such as impacts on vertebral arteries, damage to nerve roots or spinal cord, all of which are well-known risk factors of manipulation.
